Battalion Chief - Doug Wehmeyer

Battalion Chief Douglas Wehmeyer began his fire service career in 1989 with the Village of Lockland Fire Department.  Chief Wehmeyer was hired as full-time Firefighter with the Village of Woodlawn in 1995, he was promoted to Fire Marshal in 1996, and to Fire Captain in 1999.  While working at Woodlawn, Chief Wehmeyer began serving the citizens of Deerfield Township in October 2001 as a part-time Firefighter.  In September 2002, he was hired full-time by Deerfield, promoted to Captain, and charged with the responsibility of managing the Township’s Fire Inspection, Fire Investigation, and Community Outreach Programs. In April of 2008 he was promoted to Battalion Chief and he currently serves as the Unit One Shift Commander and supervises the department’s administrative operations. 

Chief Wehmeyer has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Fire Science from Anna Maria College where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and an Associate’s Degree in Fire Service Leadership from Cincinnati State where he graduated Cum Laude.  Chief Wehmeyer is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Administration at Anna Maria College and is enrolled in the Executive Fire Officer’s Program at the National Fire Academy.

Chief Wehmeyer is a Blue Card Certified Incident Commander and is certified by the State of Ohio as a Firefighter 2, Paramedic, Inspector, and Instructor.  He is also certified by the NAFI National Certification Board as a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator.  He is also a trained Hazardous Material Technician and a Rescue Technician.  Battalion Chief Wehmeyer is an adjunct instructor for Bowling Green State University – State Fire School, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, and Warren County Career Center.  He is member of the Advisory Board for the Bethesda North Hospital Paramedic Training Program, the Policy Board for the Warren County Technical Rescue Team, and is the Commander of the Warren County Fire Investigation Team.

He has been honored as the Deerfield Township Firefighter of the Year in 2003.  In 2004 he received the Erroll D. Butt Outstanding Investigator Award from the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office and along with Lieutenant Jason Todd, he received the 2009 National Heroic Firemark Award from the Liberty Mutual Group and the Warren County Firefighter of the Year Award in 2010.
